If you are trying to choose between Falcon lowrider rods vs Hawk, you probably want a quick winner. My honest answer is: choose the verified part number first, choose the brand second. I managed rod purchases for a 42-person aftermarket parts company for roughly six years, and the expensive mistakes were never the parts with the highest price. They were the parts ordered from memory instead of a spec sheet. The wrong Falcon part costs more than the right Hawk part, and the reverse is also true.

Bottom Line First

For custom lowrider builds and Ford Falcon Australia projects, Falcon is usually our default because their documentation is easier to audit. Hawk tends to win when we need a plain replacement rod on a short lead time. Does that mean Falcon is always the better value? No. In another Q3 2024 quote, Hawk had rods on the shelf and Falcon quoted nine days to make them. The build had a fixed deadline. Van Orden: The Third Option

Van Orden is a name that comes up when buyers search for high-adjustability rods. In our experience, Van Orden parts are precise and well made. They are also more likely to be made to order, which means longer lead time and higher minimums. Van Orden makes sense when the rod geometry is outside what Falcon and Hawk stock. For a standard lowrider rod, the extra cost does not usually pay back in performance.

I have mixed feelings about that conclusion. Part of me wants to keep Van Orden in the conversation because it gives customers more freedom. Another part knows that most lowrider rod orders do not need a custom part. It is harmless to quote Van Orden, but the quote should show the lead time and freight clearly. That way the buyer is making the tradeoff with full information.

Do Not Buy by Model Name Alone

This is where search terms cause trouble. Ford Falcon Australia is a vehicle platform, not a rod specification. Falcon lowrider rods is a product category that might fit some Ford Falcon Australia builds, but not every rod fits every vehicle. Bentley GT is another example. What I Ask Before Approving a Rod Purchase

First, what is the exact center-to-center length? Second, what material and coating are specified? Third, what load rating are the rod ends rated for? Fourth, what is excluded from the quoted amount, such as freight, setup, minimum order quantity, and return freight? A supplier who cannot answer those questions is not the right fit, regardless of the name on the box.

Looking back, I should have required part numbers much earlier. When I let a salesperson say, this is the Falcon rod for that car, I was giving away the control of the purchase. Now the rule is simple: no drawing, no part number, no purchase order. It sounds strict. It cuts most of the errors and most of the after-hours stress.

Boundary Conditions

If a rod has broken and the vehicle must move by Saturday, ignore the total-cost framework. Buy whatever is in stock, pay the rush fee, and solve the problem.
